Four lessons I learned from my grandmother's recent visit.
Recently I had the honor of hosting my grandmother in my home for a few days… a gift many are not able to speak of for themselves.
I knew I wanted to show her some of the sights in Sacramento and allow for quality time between her and Zion - but what I didn't expect was the depth of conversation and unveiling of some of her deepest dark secrets, story, and perspectives.
The truth is, we went deeper than either of us expected
For hours upon hours, we shared our experiences in love, divorce, death of parents (my father died last year, whereas HER mother passed 2 years ago), and parenthood. On so many occasions I found my breath taken away by her stories of strife and poverty - always knowing and sharing that I had humble roots, but never hearing of the details.
It was riveting; hearing of her experiences in giving birth on the dirt floor of a hut, raising children without basic home goods such as plates or forks, and surviving domestic violence to a degree that most of us will (thankfully) never encounter.
And while of this sounds dark and depressing, I was able to recognize and reflect back to her her own resilience, strength, and miraculous spirit. At some point on one of our walks, it struck me: this tiny old woman, walking with me through a rose garden, has seen more suffering in her life than most will see in a dozen lifetimes. And yet, you would never know it. There she was, chatting and sharing about her perspectives and offering tidbits of wisdom and philosophical concepts that I absorbed with great humility.
Read on for my 4 Key Takeaways…
One - Joy is just around the corner.
No matter what the circumstance, the sun will descend and rise again. Sometimes you may want to give up - but holding on might just be the medicine you need to get you through to your miracle. This woman went through the unthinkable in so many ways, but she shared how prayer and her faith kept her going… and no matter what your faith, I believe this to be a valid reminder. Come back to prayer, journaling, and reflection. Prayers are affirmations in the form of a request. They allow our desires and needs to be heard.
Two. The Impossible Is Possible
Read that again. The impossible is possible! Her unshaken belief in something better for herself and her children led them into a new era. There is no dream too big that cannot come true. And one thing I preach about in Radiance Training is that it's none of our business to know exactly how life will unfold or how our desires will come to fruition. It IS, however, our job to get clear on where we are going and to follow our instincts and intuition to get to the next right step.
Three. Abundance is a mindset
… and even the most abundant people can still be poor. The woman my grandmother is today is more abundant than the girl she once was ever could have dreamed of. She now owns multiple properties in Brazil, is a sovereign and independent woman, and lives with a modest retirement that will (hopefully) support her until her time comes. The young girl that used to rock her hungry children to sleep while crying and praying for a better life no longer exists. And yet, she labeled herself as “poor” when we talked. In fact, she insisted on this label and fought me when I pointed out her material successes and wins - but what I realized was that her spirit is still marred by her childhood and abuse. She is working to now claim her truth and we made some big headway together. This wasn't a “coaching session”, but rather an opportunity for me to radically heal generational trauma while she's ALIVE! What an opportunity and honor, am I right? Which leads me to…
Four. Radiance Training is the medicine
I created this program to heal myself - and through it, I've witnessed over 70 other women heal themselves. Our trauma isn't always our own. Most often it's passed down through generations. I'm honored to be a vessel for this creation to come through. Every round is unique and our current round is no different. It's my deepest desire that every human in the world reach a state of inner peace and embodied abundance.
If you made it this far, will you please share what your current focus is in life right now? Is it building a business, raising your family, healing your heart or body, or something else? I dare you to respond and share a reflection from my story or any thoughts that are alive for you!
